Where did the escape room concept come from? Everything you didn't know!
Have you ever wanted to be inside a computer game, book, or movie, and solve all the mysteries yourself? Well, this became possible with the appearance of a new type of exciting and absolutely impressive pastime: The escape rooms.
Escape rooms first appeared in Japan and China in 2007, and since then have gained a following in the US and Europe as well. They exist in more than 60 countries in the world, and they attract more and more people every day. But what is it about escape rooms that has become common in the world?
Escape rooms can be described as an interactive adventure game, during which several players (usually between 2-7) are locked in a room, and must solve puzzles and use a series of clues to hack their way out. Simply put, escape rooms are very reminiscent of computer games and television productions, only they take place in reality. Participants need to act quickly, as the time allotted to "crack the case" is limited (usually up to 60 minutes).
You might think this sounds like child's play. Okay, wait a minute. You can forget about your phone, tablet, and other gadgets. Admit it - it really feels extraordinary to be disconnected from your cell phone for an hour. So basically, you are alone in front of the puzzle... well, almost (lucky your friends will be there with you). You have to make decisions based on your thinking only. Logic, dexterity, and creativity - these are the really important things. But hurry! the clock is ticking. Along with the adrenaline running through your body, your nerves will tingle. Imagine the sense of satisfaction you will feel if you and your group manage to find the exit in time, or even before it ends!
If you decide to participate in an escape room, be prepared for a huge variety offered by different operators near you. You may find yourself in a classic escape room, following clues and solving logic puzzles, or you may end up in a realistic escape room, where you'll also enjoy an immersive plot like a good detective story.
During the game, you may feel a variety of sensations: any feeling between anxiety and stress, to confidence and victory. And who knows, you might even strengthen your bonds with your friends while playing!
Escape rooms are popping up in almost every city at such an accelerated rate that you may find yourself drowning in the variety of choice. But don't drag out the time. Grab your friends and get ready for a mind-blowing and exciting hunting trip!
See if you have what it takes to find the way out!
Trust us, after you manage to escape from one room, you will feel the urge to play more escape rooms! So in case you've already watched all the new movies that just came out, and none of your friends are hungry, you know what to do -Book an escape room
A bit of history
The term "escape the room" first appeared after the computer game "The Mystery of Time and Space" was released in 2001. "Escape the room" became a separate genre of adventure games in 2004, after the Japanese network game "Red Room", created by Toshimitsu Tagaki gained worldwide attention.
The plot of the game is like this: the hero of the game wakes up with a feeling of uneasiness in a red room. the door is locked. There are several objects in the room: a bed, a plate, a dresser, and a stereo system. To escape the room, the player must find 13 hidden objects and find how to connect them.
"Colossal Cave Adventure" released in 1975, one of the first computer games with an element of adventure, is also considered an "ancestor" of the escape rooms we know today. In the game, the player explores a dark and mysterious cave by typing simple text commands. The game was created by Will Crowther (who was also an avid fan of the game "Dungeons and Dragons"), and is a first example of interactive media.
It is not entirely clear how escape rooms made their way from the virtual world to the real world. While some consider that Romania brought the idea of "search rooms" to the world in 2007.
Another popular opinion is that the origin of the escape rooms comes from the Japanese creators (such as Toshimitsu Tagaki) as the creators of the escape rooms, others say that these were the citizens of Amsterdam with the 1974 English attraction "London Dungeon", or the 1990 French TV show "The Fortress" (Fort Boyard).
Today it doesn't matter anymore, escape rooms can be found in every major capital city in the world.
So what are you waiting for - start running, you only have 60 minutes!!
